Equal Cost Load Balancing and Failover

Equal Cost Load Balancing and Failover

For the business that needs guaranteed bandwidth, the NetVanta switch-routers can share bandwidth between two ISPs by using "equal cost" load balancing. This eliminates the need to purchase a rarely used, dormant backup link as a dedicated disaster recovery scheme. Data is transported to either ISP until one of the connections is lost. Then, data is automatically re-routed over the failover link, until service is restored. This maximizes bandwidth, allows for full usage of prepaid circuits, and provides a high-speed disaster recovery scheme if needed.

High-speed Ethernet Services

High-speed Ethernet Services

NetVanta Multiservice solutions meet the demand for high-speed Ethernet service. The NetVanta 1335 allows fast Layer 3 switching to occur between sites and throughout the network. With additional Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities, NetVanta switch-routers can power various IP endpoints such as Wireless Access Points (WAPs), surveillance cameras, and IP Phones.

Integrated Switching and Routing

Integrated Switching and Routing

The ADTRAN NetVanta Series features unique all-in-one network access solutions that combine the functionality of a managed Ethernet switch and an access router into a single platform. The NetVanta 1335 Series offers 24 10/100Base-T Ethernet ports, an integral IP router, and 1000Base-T Gigabit ports for high-speed uplink and stacking requirements. In addition, these products include a stateful inspection firewall, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Voice Quality Monitoring (VQM), cable diagnostics, and backup capability, all in a single chassis. This single-platform LAN/WAN access solution reduces the number of devices and the costs associated with multi-platform solutions. Power over Ethernet (PoE) and 802.11a/b/g wireless connectivity are also additional options that can be incorporated into the NetVanta 1335.

Load Balancing and Failover Using BGP

Load Balancing and Failover Using BGP

For an automated approach to load balancing and failover, NetVanta routers can share bandwidth between ISPs using Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). With BGP, “best route” routing decisions are made automatically between ISPs, and in the event that one connection is lost, the NetVanta switches traffic over to the remaining ISP in service. This maximizes bandwidth usage and provides a high-speed disaster recovery scheme, if needed. In addition, for a safe and controlled Internet surfing experience, NetVanta routers integrate with Websense®, a leading provider in Web content filtering.

The ADTRAN NetVanta 7000 Series will support SIP Networking between multiple locations. With the SIP Networking in AOS A2, businesses will be able to connect multiple sites and have three- to four-digit dialing, local call routing and survivability, and on-net calls for toll bypass. The NetVanta 7100 and 7060 are best for locations that need local voice mail; while ADTRAN’s NetVanta 6355 IP Business Gateway provides the ideal solution for locations that will use a central NetVanta 7000 voice mail. The remote site NetVanta 3448 router or 6355 can provide local survivability as well by continuity to route intra-office calls, or where provisioned, directly to a local PSTN for guaranteeing phone service.

  • Links multiple sites together
  • Supports inter-office, three- to four-digit dialing
  • Provides local PSTN access

Quality of Service for VoIP Networks

Quality of Service for VoIP Networks

NetVanta routers and switches offer Quality of Service (QoS) for prioritizing delay-sensitive, mission-critical traffic, such as Voice over IP (VoIP). These routers prioritize traffic using Low Latency, Weighted Fair, or Class-based Weighted Fair queuing. NetVanta platforms with an integrated switch also support 802.1p Class of Service (CoS) standards, using Weighted Round Robin and Strict Priority queuing. In addition, to help monitor and troubleshoot VoIP issues, the NetVanta routers support Voice Quality Monitoring (VQM), which is a graphically-intuitive interface to track Mean Opinion Score (MOS), jitter, delay, and packet loss statistics.
