Overview:
With growing number of Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) powered edge devices, and the explosion of multi-media traffic and cloud-based apps on the Local Area Network (LAN), having a resilient network infrastructure is essential to your business. The key to having a resilient network is to ensure uninterrupted power.
ADTRAN® addresses this need with the NetVanta® 1131 RPS/EPS unit, which provides redundant power and supplemental power to select NetVanta 1200, 1500 and 1600 Series Ethernet switches.
Hardware
The NetVanta 1131 has three Redundant Power Supply (RPS) outputs and one External Power Supply (EPS) output. The RPS outputs provide backup power for a NetVanta switch’s internal power supply. The EPS output provides 370 watts of backup PoE for PoE redundancy, and can also provide up to 370 watts additional PoE, for select NetVanta switches, for a total of 740 watts of available PoE budget power.
Alternate Power Supply
The NetVanta 1131 RPS/EPS unit provides redundant power feeds via an alternate AC power circuit. In this instance, the NetVanta switch is connected to the primary AC circuit, and connected to NetVanta 1131 RPS/EPS, which is powered via an alternate AC power source. Should the primary AC circuit fail, the NetVanta 1131 RPS automatically provides power feed to the connected NetVanta switch eliminating any downtime.
Internal Power Supply Backup
The NetVanta 1131 RPS output provides redundancy for NetVanta PoE and non-PoE switches in the event of an internal power supply failure. In the event the switch’s internal power supply fails, the NetVanta 1131 would power the NetVanta switch until the power unit is replaced or swapped out.
Redundant PoE Budget
The NetVanta 1131 EPS output provides external backup power supply to the NetVanta 1235P and the 1500 and 1600 Series PoE switches, in case the internal PoE power supply fails. The NetVanta 1131 can provide up to 370 watts of redundant PoE budget to ensure PoE-powered edge devices such as VoIP phones, wireless Access Points (APs) or IP security cameras operate without interruption.
Supplemental PoE Power
The NetVanta 1131 EPS output can also provide supplemental power up to 370 additional watts, for the NetVanta 1235P, 1544P (2.1 Gen) and 1638P switches. This provides increased power wattage, effectively doubling the available PoE budget, enabling these NetVanta switches to support greater number of PoE or PoE+-powered edge devices. The NetVanta 1131 EPS’ internal power management enables efficient budgeting of available PoE power.
